Books

We have stock of several discontinued titles and are trying to revive some which are now out of print

Prices include UK postage, which makes them seem expensive because books are heavy. Outside UK carriage can be very expensive because of the weight. To overcome this we are now making many titles available in HTML for download. This makes them a lot

cheaper as there's no carriage cost.

HTML books include a customised version of the !HTMLsrch program which enables you to search the complete book for words or phrases and creates and HTML file with alink to where all of these appear.

Archimedes Gamemakers Manual

Written by Terry Blunt, this 180+ page book describes all aspects of writing games for Acorn computers. Previously published by Sigma Press it's now been revived by APDL and as well as the printed manual there is a CD with all the example programs and the book in HTML format.

Price is just £9.90 including UK post. Please add £3.50 outside UK.
We have now discontinued the 'CD only' option and replaced it with the Download version at the even lower price of just £2.90

BasicV, a Dabhand Guide

Written by Mike Willimams, this slim volume was written in the early days of the Archimedes computer to help people who were familiar with BBC Basic on the older Acorn computers to understand the major enhancements made to the language implementation for the new 32 bit machines. However it's still a valuable work for people who want to use basic on Acorn computers although some understanding of the language is required.

Price is just £5.90 including UK post. Please add £3.50 outside UK.
Download version just £2.50

RISC OS 3 User and Application Guide.

This is the standard book that was supplied with most of the Acorn computers up to the introduction of the RiscPC when they stopped supplying printed guides and just included a 'Welcome Guide'. Although it was written for RISC OS 3.1 most of it is applicable to RISC OS 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 and beyond. If you're new to RISC OS, especially if you've just acquired a secondhand machine and want to know how to use it, or even if you're not this is an invaluable work.

Note that these may not be new but they are in 'as new' condition, most of them having spent there life stacked at the back of a school store cupboard.

Price is just £9.90 including UK post. Please add £8 outside UK.

  C, a Dabhand Guide, Version 3

By Mark Burgess and originally published by Dabs press at £16.95. Even at that price it's worth every penny. Over 700 pages, takes you through an entire programming course in C. Starts with basics but covers some more advanced topics. You don't need previous programming experience to be able to understand it. Written with Acorn machines in mind but not Acorn specific so lessons can be applied to other platforms. Highly recommended.

APDL price is just £9.90 including UK post. Please add £9.50 outside UK.

  Artworks Made Easy

By Roger Amos. There are always books to help you use Computer Concepts programs because the manuals are a bit difficult to get to grips with. This little book will explain a lot of the features in a logical and concise manner that anyone can understand. It's a real must, and even the experienced user will probably find things that they didn't know. Original cover price £14.95.

APDL price is just £8.50 including UK post. Please add £3.50 outside UK.
Currently out of print but we may be re-printing soon.
However a Download version is now available for just £2.90

  Impression, A Dabhand Guide

By Anne Rooney and intended to overcome the steep learning curve most people face when they get Impression and have only those cryptic manuals. Written for Impression II, but most things are applicable to Style and Publisher. Original cover price £14.95

APDL price is just £7.90 including UK post. Please add £6.50 outside UK.

  Graphics on the ARM

By Roger Amos, a general overview of graphics on Acorn machines. Starts at the beginning, explaining how it works, and even if you're not interested in the nuts and bolts this will help you get the best out of software. Covers many popular graphics programs (including !Paint and !Draw) and goes on to simple programming techniques. Will be of interest to anyone who either uses graphics software or is interested in programming. Cover price £14.95

APDL price is just £7.90 including UK post. Please add £8.50 outside UK.
Download version now available for just £2.90

  Budget DTP

By Roger Amos. You might think that to produce good looking documents or notices you need expensive software, but you already have free tools which can do a lot, !Draw and !Paint. These aren't very well explained in the User Guide, and advanced features are barely touched upon. OK, no-one's pretending they can replace a package costing hundreds of pounds, but it's amazing what you can do with the software Acorn provided for nothing. Cover price £12.95

APDL price is just £4.90 including UK post. Please add £3 outside UK.
Download version now available for just £2.90
